I have been putting off posting my first post because I spend too much time thinking about what the perfect first post should be. So, tonight I decided to just write it.
We celebrated #LoveMySchoolDay earlier this week. I had never heard of Love My School Day but my assistant principal sent out an email a couple days before letting us know that it was coming up. I’m sure she was expecting us to tweet a reason or two why we love our school and/or why we have #DESBulldogPride but creativity got the best of me.
I got a crazy idea to record the students from each grade level telling why they have Bulldog Pride and why they love their school.
What I didn’t realize ahead of time was just how much this project would fill my heart.
Tackling a Big Project
My process involved going around to classrooms as students arrived before school and asking them to participate. Because I was worried I might distract the younger students from going to breakfast, I filmed the older students first.
5th grade, 4th grade, and 3rd grade classes were recorded before the bell rang and the morning announcements were made. I also stopped in a couple of 2nd grade classes. I would have to record the rest of 2nd grade, 1st grade, and Kindergarten during my plan period and/or when they came to my class.
The students seemed very interested in being part of the project and surprised me with their unscripted answers.
Editing and the Outcome
Originally, I planned to do one video of kindergarten through fifth grade students but time and technology frustrations didn’t allow me to do that. Normally I wouldn’t share student pictures on my blog but I’m sharing this video from the Dixon Elementary School Facebook Page so I figured it’s okay. So far I have a K-2 video finished – you’ll find it below. The 3rd-5th grade video IS on its way soon.
This is in no way a professional video. My husband is the video production teacher…I teach music. But, I think you’ll agree that our students are proud to be DES Bulldogs! I’m SO proud to be their teacher. They’re my kids, too. 🙂
K-2 #LoveMySchool #DESBulldogPride
We celebrated #LoveMySchoolDay by asking students why they love our school and what makes them proud to be a DES Bulldog. Here are some of the Kindergarten through 2nd grade responses. 3rd-5th grade’s video is coming soon.
